Current and future history job seekers will have many opportunities to explore various career paths during the 2014 annual meeting. The Job Center features traditional conference interviews, both open and prearranged. The Job Center Handout, which lists positions that will be interviewing at the annual meeting, is now online. The Handout will be frequently updated as more search committees report that they will be conducting interviews in January, so check back often. The web page also details how the Job Center works, which is an invaluable resource for first-time job seekers, including a video that lays out exactly what to expect.

New this year will be the Career Fair. Mentors will be available to hold informational interviews or just share their own stories. Students and job candidates may want to find out how the mentors chose their career paths; was it planned or something they discovered they liked to do? What courses or training do they wish they had received in school? Did their college or department support and prepare them for alternative career paths? How did they find their current job—through an internship, networking, or an advertisement? What skills as a historian do they bring to their job?

The Career Fair will be held on Saturday, January 4, from 1–5 p.m. at the Marriott Wardman Park, Exhibit Hall C. All annual meeting attendees are welcome. For questions, contact ltownsend@historians.org.
