Just When You Thought It Was Safe to Submit an Article

Predatory journals aren’t new, but a recent AHA survey found that historians aren’t necessarily well equipped to judge their shady promises. For graduate students and early-career scholars, under increasing pressure to publish, guidance from advisers and mentors is crucial. As Debjani Bhattacharyya and Seth Denbo explain, it’s not just that predatory journals can harm a career, it’s also that these publications detract from scholarship as a whole.
