The American Council of Learned Societies recently announced its 2015 Public Fellows, a program that places recent humanities doctorates in two-year, paid appointments at government agencies and non-profit organizations. Working for museums, non-profits, and other organizations, ACLS Public Fellows highlight the contributions historians can make beyond the academy, in fields as varied as conservation, public policy, and marketing. Like the ACLS, the AHA is working to broaden the career horizons of highly-trained humanists through its Career Diversity for Historians initiative.  Part of this initiative is AHA Career Contacts, which arranges low-stakes, one-time informational interviews between graduate students and early career scholars and history PhDs beyond the professoriate—including a few ACLS Public Fellows.

Several historians were named fellows, listed below with their appointments:

• Nicole Ivy, PhD, African American Studies, American Studies, Yale University, appointed Museum Futurist, American Alliance of Museums
• Nathaniel K. Powell, PhD, History, Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, appointed Development Manager, World Monuments Fund
• Alyssa Trometter, PhD, Historical Studies, University of Melbourne, Australia, appointed Partnerships Manager, CGI University, Clinton Global Initiative
