Grant of the Week: The Consortium for History of Science, Technology and Medicine Research Fellowships

Karen Lou | Jun 2, 2020

Every week, Perspectives Daily showcases a new grant, fellowship, or scholarship that has been posted to our free community calendar. This week we are featuring the The Consortium for History of Science, Technology and Medicine Research Fellowships.

Criteria

The Consortium for History of Science, Technology and Medicine invites applications for research fellowships in the history of science, technology and medicine, broadly construed. These fellowships are open to scholars at all stages of their academic career, and will support research travel to Consortium member institutions when research activities and/or travel can resume. Scholars residing in Brazil, India and South Africa and working in medical humanities and the history of medicine are eligible for additional support generously provided by the Wellcome Trust.

As all fellowship awards involve research, the most successful applications will demonstrate strong familiarity with member collections and make a compelling argument for the importance of those collections to the proposed project. It is advisable to communicate directly with member institution librarians and archivists to identify relevant collections.

Amount

Research Fellows will be awarded a stipend of $750 for use of each collection, $425 if the collection is less than 100 miles from another collection for which a stipend has already been awarded. Candidates who live 100 or more miles from the collections they will use will receive some preference. Fellows typically receive between $950 and $3,000 depending on number and locations of collections used.

Research Fellows working in medical humanities and the history of medicine residing in Brazil, India, or South Africa will be awarded $2,000 in addition a stipend of $750 for use of each collection, $425 if the collection is less than 100 miles from another collection for which a stipend has already been awarded.
