Final Reminders for Members Traveling to Atlanta

AHA Staff | Dec 1, 1995

Housing

The 1996 annual meeting will be held at the Atlanta Hilton and Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotels. Members must make reservations by returning a housing form to the AHA Housing Bureau, which is operated by the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau. After December 4, members may call the Housing Bureau directly at (404) 521-6630 to make a reservation. The form was printed in the September newsletter; additional copies are available by writing the Convention Director, AHA, 400 A St., S.E., Washington, DC 20003, or by telephoning (202) 544-2422, ext. 104. The housing form is also available online through the AHA's home page on the World Wide Web. It is accessible using a Web browser such as Netscape by pointing toward http://web.gmu.edu/chnm/aha and using a mouse to follow the links. Rooms are subject to 13 percent room and sales taxes per night.

Although the cut-off date for the Association's housing block is December 4, all hotels will continue to take reservations on a space available basis at AHA meeting rates. If necessary, additional hotels in the immediate vicinity of the headquarters hotel will be added to the housing block.

Transportation

Zenith Travel, Inc., 16 East 34th 5t., New York, NY 10016, has been designated the official travel agency for the AHA's annual meeting, and American Airlines has been designated the official carrier to Atlanta. Fares are valid for round-trip travel between January 2 and 11.

To make your reservations with American Airlines, call the AA meeting services desk toll-free at 1-800-433-1790 and ask for file number 6016AB between the hours of 7 A.M. to midnight (CST), Monday through Friday. If your travel plans include a Saturday night stay over, American is offering a 10 percent discount on coach fares and a 5 percent discount off any reduced promotional fare. If your plans do not include staying over Saturday, January 6, American will waive the requirement and you will still be able to obtain the advantages of lower-priced fares. Please note, however, that advance purchase requirements (most are 21 days) will apply in most cases. Insist that your ticket be issued by Zenith Travel, Inc., to receive these special fares In addition, the agency will enter your name into a drawing for a pair of tickets to any American Airlines destination in Europe or Latin America.

Annual meeting attendees can also use Delta Airlines, which is offering the same 5 and 10 percent discounts. To make the reservations, call Delta's meeting and convention desk at 1-800-241-6760 between the hours of 8 A.M. and 11 P.M. (EST). Ask for File Number N1400 and request that Zenith Travel issue your ticket.

Ground Transportation

From Hartsfield International Airport to hotels. The hotels are approximately 12 miles from the airport. Taxi service costs $15 for one person and $16 for two people. A third sharing a taxi brings the cost to $18, or $6 each The Atlanta Airport shuttle offers service from the ground transportation area of the airport to all of the major downtown hotels for $8 per person one way or $14 round trip. One-way or round-trip tickets may be purchased from the AAS dispatcher at the airport's ground transportation area or from the concierge desk in the hotel lobbies. Buses depart Hartsfield every 15 to 20 minutes. The public transportation system, MARTA, has a rail line from the airport that stops at Peachtree Center (Station N1). Peachtree Center is just two blocks from the Hilton and one block from the Marriott. Trains depart every 6 to 15 minutes for downtown. MARTA costs $1.25 and is by far the most economical transportation method. All of the major car rental agencies are represented at Hartsfield Airport; see note below about parking at the hotels.
