In honor of Black Friday we’ve compiled a list of the amazing discounts available to those registered for the annual meeting. So if you’re headed to the Big Apple for AHA 2015, take note of these offers:

Registration

You still have time to pre-register for the annual meeting and receive discounted registration rates. The deadline for pre-registration is December 19.  Beginning December 20, higher onsite registration rates will apply. See our Registration guide for rates.

Also, take note of our special group registration rate for faculty and students: faculty members registered for the annual meeting may register up to three pre-candidacy graduate students for $36—only $12 each. Simply call 508-743-0510 to change your registration to a teacher/student group rate and register your students. Introduce students to the annual meeting so they can learn about the professional networks and tools available to them as they move forward in their careers as historians.

Accommodations – UPDATES!

As you know, the AHA has negotiated dramatically decreased rates at the Sheraton New York (811 7th Avenue), where we will be holding many of our sessions. Those registered for the meeting can stay at the Sheraton for as little as $149 a night. As an added incentive, the Sheraton will offer complimentary guest room Internet access and health club privileges to AHA attendees.

These deals will be available only through December 10, so if you haven’t made your reservation, now is the time; after December 10 rooms will only be available at the AHA’s convention rate on a space-available basis. You must register for the meeting to take advantage of these rates. For more information on booking at the AHA rate, visit our Hotels and Travel guide.

Travel

Amtrak offers a 10 percent discount off the best available fare to New York City between December 30, 2014, and January 8, 2015. To book, call Amtrak at 800-872-7245. Refer to Convention Fare Code X47U-915. See our Hotels and Travel guide for details.

In addition to organizing several exciting tours for the annual meeting, the Museum of the City of New York (1220 5th Avenue) is offering our attendees free admission with badge during the meeting.

The Museum at Eldridge Street (12 Eldridge Street) is offering $5 admission during the meeting when you present your AHA 2015 badge. The museum is closed on Saturday but offers free admission on Monday.

The Museum of Modern Art (11 West 53rd Street) is offering half-off admission to AHA 2015 attendees when they show their meeting badge.

Film at AHA 2015: 1971

On March 8, 1971, eight ordinary citizens broke into an FBI office in Media, Pennsylvania, and stole every file, eventually revealing to the press and public the FBI’s secret and illegal counterintelligence program COINTELPRO. The new documentary film 1971 tells the story.

1971 will be screening at the AHA Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 4, 2015, at 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. For more information on 1971, check out the film’s website and pre-order an educational DVD.  A limited $50 discount on the DVD will be available to AHA conference attendees. (This discount code will also be distributed via the aforementioned email.)

For more information on the annual meeting, check out our AHA 2015 guides. We wish you a very pleasant—and, with these offers, scholarly—Black Friday.
