Historians TV at the 125th Annual Meeting

HistoriansTV 125th Annual Meeting of the AHAHistorians TV once again made their way to the annual meeting this year, to conduct video interviews, explore the exhibit hall and job center, and showcase sponsored videos for nearly a dozen universities.

AHA Council & Staff
An interviewer from Historians TV sat down to talk with numerous members of the AHA Council and staff, including Tony Grafton (now AHA president), James Grossman (executive director), Barbara Metcalf (past-president), and Michael Fisher and Barbara Rosenwein (2011 program committee co-chairs) in the following videos:

Sessions
Speakers from sessions covering hot topics including the crisis in higher ed, the history job market, religion and history, and Google Books, took part in these videos:

  • The Crisis in Higher Education
    Tom Bender of New York University and Sean Condon of Merrimack College, who were part of session 75, discuss the financial squeeze impacting universities.
  • Academic Job Market
    Robert Townsend, the AHA’s Assistant Director of Research and Publications, and Jacqueline Jones from the University of Texas at Austin took part in session 115, and spoke on recruiting and being recruited in the current market.
  • The Challenge of Religion in History
    Carlos Eire of Yale University and Susannah Heschel from Dartmouth College speak on religion in history.
  • Culturomics – Using Google to track word trends in literature
    Erez Lieberman Aiden and Jean-Baptiste Michel’s session, “Quantitative Analysis of Culture Using Millions of Digitized Books ,“ added at the last minute, focused on the Google Books Ngram Viewer
