The winner of this year’s John O’Connor Film Prize is The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers, it will be screened this morning at 9:30 a.m. in room 210 of the Hynes Convention Center. • Open Forum on Disability and Tribute to the Life and Work of Paul Longmore

  Members of the AHA’s Professional Division and the Task Force on Disability are gathering information for an upcoming report. We invite historians with disabilities, department chairs, directors of graduate studies, members of search committees, graduate students, and anyone interested in fair and open access to the profession to discuss professional issues relating to disability. The open forum will be followed by a tribute to the life and work of Paul Longmore, San Francisco State University.

Film Festival

  The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers, produced and directed by Judith Ehrlich and Rick Goldsmith, is the winner of the AHA’s John O’Connor Film award.
• God Is a Negro from This Far by Faith, African American Spiritual Journeys

  June Cross, produced and directed (Blackside Inc. and The Faith Project, Inc., 2003) this film, which tells the story of Henry McNeil, founder of the Southern AME church.  Cross will introduce the film and lead a discussion afterward.
• Freedom Riders
  4:30 PM-6:30 PM
  Room 210 (Hynes Convention Center)
  Stanley Nelson is the producer, writer, and director (A Stanley Nelson Film, A Firelight Media Production for American Experience, 2010) of Freedom Riders, an American Experience film, which tells the powerful, harrowing, and ultimately inspirational story of six months in 1961 that changed America forever. The screening will follow a discussion of the film during session 95, “The Freedom Rides in History and Film: A 50-Year Retrospective.” Ray Arsenault (University of South Florida), the author of the book that provides the historical foundation for the documentary, will introduce the film and lead a discussion afterward.

• Reception for Two-Year Faculty
  The AHA cordially invites faculty teaching at two-year and community colleges to attend a reception in the Marriott’s Regis Room from 5:30-7:00 p.m.
• Reception for Graduate Students
  The AHA Graduate and Early Career Committee invites graduate students attending the 2011 annual meeting to a reception in the Marriott’s Suffolk Room from 6:30-8:00 p.m.

General Meeting  
The General Meeting will take place tonight at 8:30 p.m. in Ballroom C of the Hynes Convention Center. AHA President Barbara D. Metcalf will deliver her presidential address,” Islam and Power in Colonial India: The Making and Unmaking of a Muslim Prince(ss).” There will also be the presentation of awards, prizes, and honors to this year’s recipients, with Anthony Grafton presiding.
