On the Cover
Our cover story, Jose Ragas's "Beyond Big Brother," brings to light emerging research on theuse of identity documents to assert belonging. Although ID cards originated in thesciences of surveillance inthe 19th century, their proliferation led to a variety of meanings for individuals.
