Elaine Maisner's article in the May 2002 Perspectives advised authors to submit their manuscripts to presses specializing in their subject areas. One way to discover the best prospects is simply to look at your own notes. Using a word-processing search (a colon followed by a space will work nicely), compile a list of the presses whose books you've cited. The chances are excellent that the most frequently cited presses will be the ones most interested in your subject area-a principle that also applies to journal submissions.
