AHA Hiring: Editor, Perspectives on History, and Marketing and Public Relations Manager

The AHA is pleased to announce two open positions, one for editor of Perspectives on History and the other for marketing and public relations manager, both ideal for qualified individuals looking for an opportunity to positively impact the history profession.

Editor, Perspectives on History

The editor of Perspectives on History will be responsible for all aspects of the editorial, production, and promotional work pertaining to Perspectives on History. The editor plays a central part in the AHA’s publications department, and this role is a vital aspect of the organization’s communication with its members and other important constituencies. Day-to-day tasks include soliciting articles, developing content, and editing all materials. The editor is also active in writing for Perspectives and helping to promote the magazine.

The successful candidate will have a higher degree in history or a closely related field, as well as experience with print and online magazine editorial and production work. This person will have superb organizational abilities, be detail oriented, and possess highly effective communication skills. Marketing and Public Relations Manager

The marketing and public relations manager will be responsible for promoting the AHA through various marketing activities (especially with regard to membership and the annual meeting), media relations, and fundraising. The role of this staff member includes developing and executing marketing strategies for AHA membership initiatives, overseeing the composition and design of marketing materials, and collaborating with digital publication staff in use of the AHA website and social media for marketing purposes. The marketing and public relations manager will serve as media relations coordinator, as well as work closely with the executive director and associate director on fundraising initiatives.

The qualified applicant will have an advanced degree in history or related field and exhibit excellent communication skills, both oral and written; the ability to collect, analyze, and present information; and the capacity to successfully manage multiple projects. The successful candidate will have experience in marketing while also possessing a familiarity with higher education in the humanities.
