AHA Council Issues Letter of Concern Regarding the New York Board of Regents Proposed Modifications to Exams

American Historical Association | Dec 3, 2014

The American Historical Association submitted a statement this week on proposed changes to the New York State Board of Regents Examination, which is an end-of-year examination given to students seeking a Regents diploma. The proposed modifications would reduce the social studies requirements from two exams to one and would require students to choose between a comprehensive exam in Global History and Geography or in U.S. History and Government. Submitted to the Board of Regents, the statement by the AHA emphasizes the necessity of history education to preparing students for many career options and for lives as part of an engaged citizenry.
