We will be meeting in Atlanta January 7-10 for four days of intellectual enlightenment and discussion on the historical profession. In addition to the enriching conversations historians will have in person, social media offers another way to learn about opportunities at the meeting and trade ideas. And for those who cannot make it to Atlanta, there are still plenty of ways to be involved in the annual meeting from afar.

Twitter

We will be tweeting announcements about important meeting events from @AHAhistorians, so first and foremost, follow us!

Keep an eye on all annual meeting conversation by following the hashtag #AHA16. Many historians on Twitter have already been using this as a means of connecting with one another before arriving in Atlanta, and we encourage attendees to use this hashtag in all Twitter posts related to the meeting. Want to let everyone know what a great presentation your fellow historian just gave? Use the hashtag. Need to find a group of historians to join you for an AHA16 signature cocktail at one of the hotel bars? Why not tweet at them with #AHA16? This hashtag is a great way of instantly connecting with other annual meeting attendees.

We also encourage active use of session hashtags. Most sessions can be identified using an “s” and the session number, which you can find in the annual meeting program and app. For instance, if you are attending AHA session 221, you would indicate this using the hashtag #s221.

When tweeting about a session, please use #AHA16 and the session hashtag. This will facilitate the searching and archiving of tweets.

Lastly, as you check out the poster sessions, give shout-outs to historians whose posters you admire by tweeting them to #AHAposter.

For those who are active on Facebook, we will be posting on the American Historical Association page regularly, so feel free to comment on posts or write posts yourself on our page. We especially invite you to like our page and follow us.

In particular, check Facebook each morning to find out which AHA staff will be at our exhibit hall booth that day. We’re eager to meet you, talk about your work, and hear your ideas for the association and the history discipline. We hope you’ll stop by.

These posts will chronicle meeting sessions and events while also reflecting on their importance to the historical discipline and profession.
