Dear Editor:
Professor Degler’s two-part article, “How Fares History?” (December and January Perspectives), was both insightful and informative. I realize that his report was “person and impressionistic,” and that he admits that his sample “cannot be described as representative; the study is hardly scientific.”
Nevertheless, it seems rather odd to me that Degler could visit seventeen institutions—including one high school—and fail to stop off at any two-year colleges. There are over twelve hundred two-year community or junior colleges in America. Hundreds of thousands, if indeed not millions, of students will only be exposed to a history class at a two- year institution.
I would hope that future reports of a similar nature would include at least one two year community, junior, or technical college.
