The AHA’s 1995 annual meeting is scheduled for January 5–8 in Cincinnati, Ohio. On November 2, voters in Cincinnati amended the city’s Human Rights Ordinance to eliminate sexual orientation as a basis for protection against discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations. At its November 7–8 meeting, the AHA’s Research Division passed the following resolution, which it directed be published in Perspectives and conveyed to the Executive Committee of the AHA Council for action:
The AHA Research Division unanimously deplores discrimination and at this time specifically regrets Cincinnati’s decision to legalize discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. We call for the AHA Council to relocate the Association’s 1995 annual meeting and call for similar action in similar cases in the future.
