Parc Fifty Five Hotel Labor Dispute Resolved

AHA Staff | Sep 1, 1993

As many of our members may be aware, the Association signed a contract in 1990 for a block of 450 rooms at the Parc Fifty Five Hotel for the January 1994 meeting and subsequently learned of an on-going labor dispute between hotel management and the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union (H.E.R.E.), Local # 2. At its May 1992 meeting, the AHA Council declined to break the contract unilaterally but agreed that sessions and other events should not be scheduled in meeting rooms at the hotel as long as the dispute remained unsettled. AHA staff was asked to advise the membership of all developments in fall 1993 issues of Perspectives. We are pleased to report that the Council's judgment has been proved correct. The AHA has been notified by John Stoddard, General Manager of the Parc Fifty Five Hotel, and Sherri Chiesa, President of H.E.R.E., Local 2 that the dispute was settled on March 31, 1993 with an agreement to recognize the union within the hotel.
