Forum on European Expansion and Global Interaction

The Forum on European Expansion .1 and Global Interaction will hold its fourth biennial meeting at the Huntington Library, San Marino, California, on February 14-17, 2002. The forum is concerned with the expansion of Europe and the worldwide response to that process, from its beginnings in the 14th century to the middle of the 19th century. Scholars from a wide variety of fields share their research findings on topics such as transnational commerce, missionary activity around the world, varieties of resistance to European expansion, the role of law and the military in the governance of empires, race, gender, and the emergence of colonial identities. Urban History Association Calls for Papers

The Urban History Association invites proposals (by February 15, 2002) of individual papers and panels for the first biennial urban history conference to be held September 26-28, 2002, at the John Heinz regional History Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The central goal of the conference is to explore world urbanization, urbanism, and urban regions in all their complexities across time and space.

The conference committee is seeking to foster comparative, international, and interdisciplinary explorations of urban history, and particularly welcomes proposals that have a comparative international framework or that place the study of urbanization in one country or a specific period within an international context or that have transnational implications.
