Dear Editor:

That it should seem necessary to include in the Employment Information section, as they appeared in the December 1988 issue of Perspectives, such statements as, "In accordance with Canadian immigration regulations, this advertisement is directed to Canadian citizens and permanent residents" and "The University of Southern Maine hires only United States citizens and lawfully authorized alien workers," is lamentable though understandable. But, that Florida State University should add to the burden of the latter statement the observation that, "The American policy is our policy," is a commentary quite at odds with intellectual and academic openness and thus cause for special sadness.
