Norton Appointed as General Editor of the Guide to Historical Literature

AHA Staff | Dec 1, 1990

The AHA is pleased to announce the appointment of Mary Beth Norton, Cornell University, as the new General Editor for the third edition of the Association's Guide to Historical Literature. Professor Norton served as vice president of the AHA's Research Division from 1985 through 1987 and in that capacity initiated the Guide revision, taking responsibility for planning and initial implementation of the project. Prior to assuming her current position as project director, she served as Consulting Editor for the Guide.

She succeeds John Higham, Johns Hopkins University, who resigned earlier this year to resume his own work. Professor Higham oversaw the project for three years (1987–90) and provided the Guide with the intellectual focus and organizational structure so critical to the development of a bibliographic tool of this breadth. The AHA is indebted to Professor Higham for his generous efforts on behalf of this important project.
