Norman Cantor "cannot remember any American historian having a privileged career" like the three distinguished European historians mentioned by Lynn Hunt? Surely Arthur Schlesinger Jr. came from a family that offered as many advantages as any future historian might hope to have, at least as I read Schlesinger's memoir. But I could be mistaken, as I may be no more than one of the high school teachers whom Professor Sandler in his February 2003 letterremembers as lazily making his students memorize dates and facts!
