Concerning Robert A. Schneider's article in the October 2005 Perspectives: It could well be that many subscribers to the AHR read few of the articles, but quite a large number read the book reviews—and not only in their own special fields of research and teaching.
As for the article, “The Teaching of European History” (by Arthur Haberman and Adrian Shubert), it seems to me that even the older textbooks on Western Civ (such as R. R. Palmer’s book, which I used at one time) had a good deal on Spain—at least from 1492 until the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713.
