To nurture interest in history among students and to encourage their mentors, the AHA is offering—starting with the forthcoming Seattle meeting—a special registration rate for high school and undergraduate teachers who are accompanied by their students. Such teachers (at the 9–16 level) who wish to bring some of their students to the annual meeting can take advantage of this offer and preregister themselves and up to five accompanying students for the special fee of $50 for the group.

For administrative reasons, preregistration is required to obtain this special rate. It will not be available, therefore, after the preregistration deadline (December 10, 2004) has passed. Teachers who register for this special group rate will be contacted by AHA staff to get the names of the students and to verify the status of the teacher and students. Because this is an experimental measure, only AP history students or undergraduate history majors and minors will be eligible to be included in the groups for this offer.

Once in Seattle, teachers will pick up their own badges and the specially marked student badges at the registration area. Students must accompany the teachers to pick up their badges, and may be required to produce their student identification. The group will have access to all annual meeting sessions and the Exhibit Hall; but the students in the group will not have access to or be in the messaging system. Students must be accompanied at all times by the teachers leading their group.

High school and undergraduate history teachers can take advantage of this special opportunity to introduce their AP history students or history majors to the history profession and its premier professional association. Please note that this special rate is not available for graduate students, teachers at the graduate level, or 9–16 teachers who are not bringing students to the meeting. They will have to register by paying the usual rate at the appropriate level.
