Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

Does anyone share my concern over the growing trend in American journalism to render major historical events in lower case letters? I’m thinking of “gulf war”, “cold war” and most recently “confederate”. It seems to me that we are on the road to the “ American revolution”, “progressive movement”, “new deal” and even the “ first and second world wars”. The use of capital letters traditionally marks important events and movements. To abandon them will only bring confusion to the young as well as future readers.
