On Friday, February 20, the Department of History at the University of California, Irvine, will host Nuestra América: Rethinking Fronteras in US History, a conference in honor of UCI Distinguished Professor Vicki L. Ruiz.Ruiz is being celebrated not only for her leadership as AHA President, but “for her decades of transformative scholarship, and for the contribution her work has made to inclusive excellence.”
Several panels focusing on Chicano and Latino history will take place, including a film screening of Virginia Espino’s “No Más Bebés Por Vida.” Margaret Jacobs (University of Nebraska) will deliver the keynote address, “A Generation Removed: The Fostering and Adoption of Indigenous Children in the Postwar World.”
