Historians attending the 127th annual meeting are invited to participate in the 106th Annual Jackson Day Race on Sunday, January 6, 2013, starting at 8:30 a.m.

The 9K (5.6 mile) race from Old Spanish Fort on the bank of Bayou St. John to Jackson Square in the French Quarter roughly follows the route that Lafitte's pirates took in responding to the call of Major General Andrew Jackson for reinforcements preceding the 1815 Battle of New Orleans.

Annual meeting attendees who would like to enter the race should register at New Orleans Track Club using the discount codeAHA13 byDecember 15. Registration is$25 per person. Race packets can be picked up on Saturday, January 5, 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. in the AHA Headquarters Office in the Marriott New Orleans, Mardi Gras Ballroom F.

On the morning of the race from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m., free bus transportation will be provided from the Jax Brewery on Decatur Street (which is about 5–6 blocks from the Marriott and Sheraton) to the starting line at Old Spanish Fort. The race finishes near the Jax Brewery at Jackson Square.
