December Perspectives and the Annual Meeting Supplement – Now Online!

The December issue of Perspectives and the Annual Meeting Supplement are now available online.

In her valedictory article as president, Linda K. Kerber writes about the AHA’s connections to the larger world through the years, and calls on the Association and the profession to do a better job of fostering international intellectual exchange.

Connecting to the themes raised in Linda Kerber’s essay, Alice Kessler-Harris and Ida Blom, who will be admitted to the AHA as its Honorary Foreign Member at the Atlanta annual meeting, converse not only about the fascinating life and career of Blom, but also about the state of women’s history in Scandinavia and Europe in general.

The issue features useful new information and advice about the path to the history PhDs. In “What Do We Know about History PhDs?” Robert Townsend surveys recent data from history PhD programs about their recent applicants, support for students, and the progress of their students toward the degree. Also be sure to check out Liena Vayzman’s “Practical Advice for Writing Your Dissertation, Book, or Article.” AHA Today featured Vayzman’s website “Ask the Dissertation Diva” in a blog post in November.

The Annual Meeting Supplement offers an abundance of articles covering the latest information about the Annual Meeting, including: housing, travel, and ground transportation reminders; a list of award recipients; and sessions of interest to public historians. The Supplement also contains a variety of articles on Atlanta itself, ranging from accessing Georgia on the Internet, to Atlanta’s role in the Civil Rights movement, to cheap eats.
