The 1989 annual meeting of the Association will be held in San Francisco, December 27–30. The Program Committee welcomes proposals by historians (academic and nonacademic), by scholars in related disciplines, and by affiliated societies. The committee, approved by the Council, consists of the following: Timothy N. Tackett, University of California, Irvine (chair); James B. Gilbert, University of Maryland College Park (cochair); Clayborne Carson, Stanford University; Gregory L. Freeze, Brandeis University; Linda B. Hall, University of New Mexico; Sally Marks, Providence, RI; Marjorie McIntosh, University of Colorado; Howard J. Shorr, Downtown Business Magnet School, Los Angeles; Lorena Walsh, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation; Ernest P. Young, University of Michigan.
The theme for the 1989 meeting will be the “French Revolution.” The committee thus particularly encourages the submission of panel proposals on all aspects of the revolutionary period in France, in Europe, and in the world. The committee also welcomes submissions on topics related to the broader theoretical, methodological, and comparative problems of revolutions in general, and on other revolutionary movements throughout the world from the early modern period through the late twentieth century.
Entire sessions, panels, or workshops may be proposed. Single paper proposals should contain suggestions for potential chairs, commentators, or related papers. Proposals should be submitted in triplicate and should include a curriculum vita for each participant and a one-paragraph abstract that summarizes the thesis and significance of each paper. Proposals should be sent to Timothy N. Tackett, Department of History, University of California, Irvine, CA 92717.
All participants in the annual meeting program, except foreign scholars and scholars from other disciplines, must be bona fide members of the Association. Participants in the 1988 program will not be eligible to appear in the 1989 program except under extraordinary circumstances.
The Program Committee will hold its first meeting in mid-November. In order for proposals to be considered at this meeting, submissions must be received no later than October 28, 1988. The final deadline for proposals is mid-February, 1989.
