At its semiannual meeting on Sunday June 3, 2007, the AHA Council released the following statement:
Upon recommendation from the Teaching Division, the AHA Council endorsed the National Council for History Education’s Statement on Teacher Qualifications.
Last June, the Council asked the Teaching Division to write a document on K-12 history teacher qualifications. While reviewing materials in the preparation of such a document, the Teaching Division was impressed by the National Council for History Education’s new Statement on Teacher Qualifications. The Teaching Division decided the issue would be much more clear and simple without yet another statement of standards, when the National Council for History Education had already approved an excellent statement.
