AHA Annual Meeting

The 1987 Annual Meeting of the Association will be held in Washington, DC, December 27-30. The Program Committee, approved by the Council, consists of the following members: Lewis Perry, Vanderbilt University (chair); Alexander Rabinowitch, Indiana University (cochair); Carlos E. Cortes, University of California, Riverside; Kathleen M. Dalton, Phillips Academy, Andover; Kermit L. Hall, University of Florida; Sarah Hanley, University of Iowa; Penelope Johnson, New York University; Jon Kukla, Virginia State Library; Vernon L. Lidtke, Johns Hopkins University, and Anand A. Yang, University of Utah.

The Program Committee will hold its first meeting in November. In order to be considered at this meeting, proposals must be received by October 25, 1986. The committee welcomes proposals on all aspects of scholarship, teaching, and public issues related to history. Since 1987 is the bicentennial of the US Constitution, the committee is interest ed in sessions focusing on federalism and constitutional government, especially if they have international or comparative dimensions.

Proposals may be for entire sessions, panels, or workshops, or for a single paper. All sessions should reflect, insofar as possible, the diversity of the profession, and the committee may alter suggested panels in order to achieve this goal. Therefore, it may be a good idea, when proposing a session, to suggest some alternatives for chairs and commentators. Proposals should include a vita for each participant and a one paragraph abstract that summarizes the thesis and significance of each paper.

All participants in the annual meeting program, except foreign scholars and scholars from other disciplines, must be bona fide members of the Association. Participants in the 1986 program will not be eligible to appear on the 1987 program except under extraordinary circumstances.

It would be helpful to have five copies of each proposal. They should all be sent to Lewis Perry, Chair of the 1987 Program Committee, Box 95, Station B, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN 37235.
