Kevin Boyle

Vice President, Profession

Kevin Boyle is the William Smith Mason Professor of American History at Northwestern University. His work centers on modern American social movements, with an emphasis on race and class. He has written on the civil rights movement, the labor movement, racial conflict, and the making of political extremism. In his role as vice president of the Professional Division, he helps to promote the profession's ethical standards, define best practices, propose relevant policies, monitor job markets, and support the AHA's commitment to fair and equal treatment of historians at every stage of their careers. Before coming to Northwestern, Boyle taught at the University of Toledo, the University of Massachusetts, and Ohio State University. He also held a one-year visiting position at University College Dublin.
