Anne Hyde is professor of history at the University of Oklahoma. She works on race, Indigenous America, and the US West. Her most recent books include Born of Lakes and Plains: Mixed-Descent Peoples and the Making of the American West, (Norton 2022) and Empires, Nations, and Families: A New History of the North American West, 1800–1860, a 2012 Bancroft winner and Pulitzer finalist. At Oklahoma she serves on the History Department’s Graduate Committee, the OU Press Editorial Board, and on a recent search for a VP and Provost. She served as President of the AHA’s Pacific Coast Branch and was elected as councilor to the AHA and the WHA. Beginning in 2011, she worked as faculty director of the AHA’s Tuning the History Discipline project to help history departments assess and reform curricula. Before moving to OU in 2016, she spent two decades at Colorado College, a small liberal arts college. There, she chaired several departments and served several terms on the faculty executive council. As VP of the Professional Division, she hopes to support broad coalitions of scholars to uphold the diverse and expert authority at the heart of the history profession, now under attack.
