Digital history is a hot topic in the profession right now, and a reoccurring character on AHA Today, so we start off this week’s “What We’re Reading” with two posts by Mills Kelly on “Making Digital Scholarship Count.” Keeping with the digital theme, we link to a post about the “unofficial wiki” for the Society of American Archivists’ 2008 annual meeting. Then, learn about the NCH’s support of the “Electronic Message Preservation Act,” hear advice on attending international conferences, look back at presidential campaign commercials, and read about a professor’s preservation award.

• Making Digital Scholarship Count
  Mills Kelly at the edwired blog initiates a much needed discussion about Making Digital Scholarship Count. See also his follow-up post, Making Digital Scholarship Count (2).
• Wiki for 2008 SAA Annual Meeting now open for business
  The ArchivesNext blog reports on the newly available “unofficial wiki” for the Society of American Archivists’ 2008 annual meeting. The wiki allows the public to share information on sessions and events at the SAA meeting, things to do in San Francisco, and other annual meeting information. Attendees are also encouraged to share links to their blogs (when they blog about the meeting), pictures, and information about themselves.
• History Coalition Endorses “Electronic Message Preservation Act”
  The Chronicle reports on the National Coalition for History’s support of the “Electronic Message Preservation Act” (H.R. 5811, H. Rept. 110-709). See the NCH site to read the letter sent to Representative Henry A. Waxman, Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

  Christopher Phelps, associate professor of history at Ohio State University at Mansfield, gives his perspective and advice on attending international conferences in this Chronicle article.
• A daisy and some ice cream
  Jonathan Rees at the More or Less Bunk blog notes that Tony Schwartz, the creator of Lyndon Johnson’s “daisy ad,” passed away on Saturday. He then points to The Living Room Candidate, where you can find presidential campaign commercials from 1952 to 2004.
• ASU professor receives Governor’s Heritage Preservation Honor Award
  Noel Stowe, professor at Arizona State University and AHA member, has been awarded the 2008 Governor’s Heritage Preservation Honor Award for his “outstanding achievements in preserving Arizona’s historic resources through the public history program he guides at Arizona State University.”
