You may have heard of EDSITEment before, maybe even from this blog, but do you really know about all that the site has to offer? This site is a clearinghouse of links to respected educational web sites, but its real draw should be the lesson plans available to teachers. EDSITEment’s History & Social Studies plans, which number in the hundreds, can be searched both by subject categories and grade levels. But beyond the sheer quantity of resources, the site also offers an impressive level of quality (often a rarity online). Courses are created and reviewed by scholars, many of whom use them in K-12 and even undergraduate level classrooms. The range and depth of the topics covered in these lesson plans is impressive. Check out “300 Spartans at the Battle of Thermopylae: Herodotus’ Real History,” “Profiles in Courage: To Kill A Mockingbird and the Scottsboro Boys Trial,” or  “Scripting the Past: Exploring Women’s History Through Film,” to get just a glimpse of what’s available.

The site also has a selection of AP U.S. History Lessons, which Susan Jenson, Director of EDSITEment, explains were “provided through funding to Ashland University and CCNY.” All the lesson plans available on EDSITEment are rich in content and complexity, and many take advantage of the abundance of resources available online.
