ViewShare: Free Tool for Building Interactive Digital Collections

Elisabeth Grant | Nov 14, 2011

This past April, we profiled Recollection, a software platform for digital collections that was under development by the Library of Congress. Two weeks ago the Library announced the relaunch of Recollection under a new name: ViewShare.

ViewShare

ViewShare is free for individuals associated with cultural heritage organizations (libraries, archives, historical societies, colleges, and universities). After users request an account, they’re able to upload data to create interactive maps, charts, and timelines that can then be shared or embedded in an existing site. Along with having a new name, ViewShare also has some new features, detailed in the relaunch announcement, including a better interface, importing through OAI-PHM, and more options for making data public or private.
