The National Coalition for History’s latest edition of its Washington Update is now online. Some highlights include news from the National Archives, details on grant opportunities, and a link to an article of interest.

From the Archives
The National Archives has teamed up with Footnote.com to digitize Archives records and provide them online. 4.5 million pages are available for Footnote subscribers so far. Soon, they will also be available at no cost through the National Archives research rooms. Also from the Archives, Thomas J. Putnam has been appointed director of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.

Applying for Grants and Workshops
The Department of Education is accepting grant applications for its “Teaching American History” program, and will be holding a technical assistance workshop on the application process in Washington, D.C. on January 31st. Meanwhile, the National Endowment for the Humanities is accepting applications for the 24 “Landmarks of American History and Culture” workshops occurring this summer.
