Perspectives on History Online – February 2008 Issue

Elisabeth Grant | Feb 13, 2008

February 2008 Perspectives on HistoryLike many February issues of Perspectives before it, this month the magazine features numerous articles on the most recent annual meeting. AHA Today covered some main events of the meeting while it was going on, and those posts have been compiled into the Perspectives on History article “The 122nd Annual Meeting: Some Snapshots from AHA Today.” Also see the article by David Darlington, co-manager of the Job Register, “The 2008 Job Register: By The Numbers,” to get the scoop on all the hiring details. Debbie Ann Doyle contributes two articles this month: “Public History at the Annual Meeting” and “Forum on Disability.” And read more about the new Roy Rosenzweig Prize in History and New Media, which was announced at the meeting.

Despite all the annual meeting recaps, the cover of the February issue is of an archive, to draw attention to Robert Townsend and Vernon Horn’s article “AHA Launches Archives Wiki” (also discussed on this blog just yesterday). And other AHA projects are highlighted as well. See Rob Schneider’s article on the February Issue of the AHR and the AHA’s recent statement on IRBs.

See also news from both the National Coalition for History and the National History Center, with Lee White’s detailed look at the Fiscal 2008 Budget and an assortment of news briefs. From the NHC comes a list of the 15 scholars selected for the 2008 Summer Seminar on Decolonization.

This month’s Viewpoints column is brimming with topics. Read Cary Nelson’s “No Man or Woman Is an Island: An Open Letter to AHA Members from the AAUP President,” Nancy C. Unger’s “Writing Letters of Recommendation Revisited: The Undergraduate Case,” and Andrew Darien’s “Historicizing and Humanizing
Historians: Oral History and History Faculty
.”

Find all of this and news from our affiliates, letters to the editor, and more in the February 2008 issue of Perspectives on History online.
