• History of Halloween. Learn about the history of Halloween in this roundup of articles, videos, and lesson plans.

• Presidential Debates: Past and Present. Check out these debate resources (websites, lesson plans, and videos) to prepare for the 2012 presidential election.

• Indians of the Midwest: Interviews, Maps, Essays, and Other Resources. Indians of the Midwest, a new site from the D'Arcy McNickle Center for American Indian and Indigenous Studies at the Newberry Library, offers recent scholarship on the 34 recognized tribes in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. The site has been organized around "seven important issues."

• Advocacy: A number of history programs were threatened this past month as Congress decided the budget, and readers were kept up-to-date with our posts. On October 22, 2011 we posted Update on History Education Funding, followed by "Tell Congress Not to Eliminate Title VI/Fulbright-Hays Programs".

• Institutional Review Boards: The AHA has been speaking out about proposed changes to Institutional Review Boards. See AHA Reiterates Stance on Oral History Review and Cautions on Extension of Privacy Rules and Oral History and Information Risk: A Response to the Federal Proposal.

• Session of the Week: Leading up to the 126th Annual Meeting, the AHA blog will be featuring a series of "Session of the Week" posts on AHA Today to highlight the varied scholarship you can expect at the upcoming meeting.
