The Council of the Association in December endorsed the concept of making use of the heightened interest among our fellow-citizens and students in the Persian Gulf, Near and Middle East to encourage educational projects. A book of readings and source material is well along in preparation by a group of members and other specialists. We have also begun to assemble a list of potential speakers with expertise in the area. In addition to the names of historians who specialize in this field, the list also includes a number of retired American diplomats who possess a broad knowledge of Islamic culture from their years of service in this region. We are indebted to the scholars at the Middle East Institute in Washington, DC, for the names of diplomats, while the faculty members are listed in our Directory of History Departments and Organizations in the United States and Canada, and their specialties can be found in that book. Listed below are the names and addresses of those individuals who have responded to our request on availability. An addendum will be published as other names are added to the list. (Countries and/or fields of specialization are indicated after the names of retired diplomats.) Note: The immediacy of publishing this listing circumscribes collection of c.v.s and lecture topics for each individual. The Association is also unable to report on any lecture fees that might be asked in addition to expenses.
