The latest issue, April 2008, of Perspectives on History focuses on teaching history with a global perspective. Three teaching column articles elaborate on this theme:

Covering a topic that should be of interest to all historians, AHA executive director Arnita Jones writes in “The AHA and Advocacy” about the efforts and success in helping to secure a more than a billion dollars of federal funding appropriations for the agencies and programs that support historical research and teaching.

In the news section learn about Gutenberg-e’s new open access approach, read about what’s in the April 2008 issue of the AHR, and hear a recap of the National Humanities Alliance meeting in D.C. Also, as mentioned previously on AHA Today, the AHA has written a number of letters to federal authorities expressing its objection to the destruction of Guantanamo records. From the National Coalition for History hear more news from the Hill in the article “Broken Records” and in various news briefs.

AHA specific news includes updates on the AHA election process. See “Changes in the AHA Nomination Process” and check out the 2008 nominations for AHA officers.
Also, see the final report from the Working Group on the Future of the AHA.

You already know that history matters, but read Stan Katz’s article on why the National History Center matters too. And hear what your university may have in common with Wal-mart in Andrew Bell’s “Welcome to Corporate U.”

Read all of this, as well as letters to the editor and in memoriam pieces in the April 2008 issue of Perspectives on History online.
