Ramón Areces Fellowship for Postdoctoral Scholars
(for Spanish Citizens) 2025-2026

The Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (CES) at Harvard University invites post-doctoral scholars to apply for the Ramón Areces Fellowship for the 2025-2026 academic year. This fellowship supports highly accomplished social scientists with Spanish citizenship to participate in the Center’s Visiting Scholars Program and undertake research at Harvard for 10 months.

Eligibility Requirements

• Spanish citizenship. Note: Eligible candidates can also apply for the CES German Kennedy Memorial Fellowship.
• Possess a Ph.D. at the time of application. The degree should have been completed no more than eight years prior to application.
• Demonstrate a track record of academic publications.
• Commit to being in residence at CES for from September 1, 2025-June 30, 2026. Acceptances cannot be deferred.
• Be unencumbered by teaching and/or other academic responsibilities.

Benefits

• Participate in the Center’s Visiting Scholars Program, attend the required weekly New Research on Europe Seminar at CES, and present work therein.
• Pursue an independent project on modern Europe in the social sciences.
• Receive a Harvard University research appointment granting full access to its facilities and its research resources, including the university’s library system.

• Have a desk in a shared office space at CES in Adolphus Busch Hall.

Funding

The Ramón Areces Fellowship provides a $65,000 stipend for 10 months of residential research between September 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026.

Application Materials

• Cover letter explaining academic work and interest in the program.
• Curriculum vitae.
• Title of the research project and 150-word abstract.
• Social science research proposal with focus on modern Europe to be carried out at CES (max. four pages including a one-page research timeline).
• A 250-word biography.
• Three letters of recommendation.
• Non-native English speakers must submit TOEFL scores or a signed letter attesting to fluency in spoken and written English.
