German Kennedy Memorial Fellowship for Postdoctoral Scholars
(for EU Citizens) 2025-2026

The Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (CES) at Harvard University invites post-doctoral scholars to apply for the German Kennedy Memorial Fellowship for the 2025-2026 academic year. This fellowship supports highly accomplished social scientists with EU citizenship (other than from Germany) to participate in the Center’s Visiting Scholars Program and undertake research at Harvard for 10 months.

Eligibility Requirements

• Citizenship of an EU member state other than Germany. Note: German citizens can apply for the John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellowship; Spanish citizens can apply for the Ramón Areces Fellowship.
• Possess a Ph.D. at time of application. The degree should have been completed no more than eight years prior to application.
• Demonstrate a track record of academic publications.
• Commit to being in residence at CES from September 1, 2025-June 30, 2026.
• Be unencumbered by teaching and/or other academic responsibilities.
• Research a social science discipline (including history) related to modern Europe and/or transatlantic relations.

Benefits

Funding

The German Kennedy Memorial Fellowship provides a $65,000 stipend for 10 months of residential research at CES from September 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.

Application Materials

• Cover letter explaining academic work and interest in the program.
• Curriculum vitae.
• Title of the research project and 150-word abstract.
• A research proposal stating the purpose, methodology, and implications of the research to be conducted at CES (max. four pages including a one-page research timeline).
• A 250-word biography.
• Three letters of recommendation.
• Non-native English speakers must submit TOEFL scores or a brief, signed letter attesting to fluency in spoken and written English.
