CALL FOR PAPERS - White House History Quarterly
White House History Quarterly features articles on the historic White House and its occupants. With the knowledge that the White House is one of the most richly documented houses in the world and the premier symbol of the American presidency, we publish original research that draws from these resources as well as first-hand interviews, secondary accounts, and the vast wealth of illustrations of all kinds, from drawings to photographs, in exploring the many aspects of so extensive a past. We serve a varied readership, both popular and academic, interested in history, architecture, and biography, all of which we present in the context of the White House and its ongoing traditions.
White House History Quarterly welcomes submissions in the form of abstracts of original scholarship from historians, scholars, and artisans of diverse specialties, and former White House staff.
We are currently considering abstracts on the following subjects:
- Decorative Arts at the White House
- Photographing the White House
- Holidays in the White House
- Science, Innovation, and Technology at the White House
- Children’s Literature and the White House
- Great Moments in White House History
- The White House: Gardens and Grounds
- The Presidents Abroad
- Memoirs and Primary Documents
- White House Mysteries - Solved and Unsolved
- Late 20th and Early 21st Century Fashion at the White House
Additionally, we welcome topics related to presidential sites, not only focused on presidential homes, but also sites associated with the lives of the presidents, such as St. John’s Church, or dedicated to them, such as the Kennedy Center. One presidential site article is featured in each issue of White House History Quarterly.
Abstracts related to these topics will be considered on an ongoing basis.
To propose a paper topic for publication consideration, please email ewerling@whha.org or visit our website to obtain a PDF copy of the Abstract Submission Form.
