Hear how some of Washington, D.C.’s most well-known and powerful figures worked to improve community and police relations in the late 1960s through The Pilot District Project. Amber N. WileyPh.D., assistant professor of American Studies at Skidmore College, tells the story of this community policing program, developed by Robert Shellow, and how it engaged many of Washington's politicians and activists including Marion Barry, Erieka Bennett, Walter Fauntroy, Susan Meehan, Frank Reeves, and Carlos Rosario.

This program complements the exhibition Community Policing in the Nation’s Capital: The Pilot District Project, 1968–1973, which will be open prior to the program.
