Call for Papers
Conference of Quaker Historians and Archivists

University of Massachusetts at Amherst
Amherst, Massachusetts
June 22-24, 2018

The Conference of Quaker Historians and Archivists will hold its next biennial conference at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst on June 22-24, 2018. The conference will be followed by an optional post-conference field trip to Quaker sites in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

We invite proposals for presentations on any aspect of Quaker history, across all time periods and locations. In addition to individual paper presentations, we welcome proposals for complete sessions, roundtable discussions, workshops, or other collaborative formats. We also seek participants for a session of 5-7 minute lightning talks, a format especially well suited to works-in-progress, recent publications, or ongoing projects. To complement this year's conference site--home to the records of New England Yearly Meeting--we particularly encourage presentations on New England-related topics.

Send a one-page proposal including presentation title, a one-page vita or resume, and a short statement assuring ability to attend, if accepted, to Susan Garfinkel and John Anderies, program co-chairs, at quakerhistoriansandarchivists@gmail.com. Paper proposals should highlight argument, approach, or methodology, as well as anticipated content. Proposals for sessions should be sent as a package, including an overall description as well as the requested materials for each participant.

Logistics: Lodgings (hotel or dormitory) and meal service will be available on campus, within walking distance of conference sessions. Amherst is easily accessible by air or train in combination with bus or shuttle service, as well as by car. In addition to the University of Massachusetts, Amherst College, and Hampshire College (three of the Five Colleges Consortium members), the town of Amherst is home to the Emily Dickinson House, the Eric Carle Museum, and the Yiddish Book Center.

The deadline for proposals is December 4, 2017.
