California Rare Book School is a continuing education program dedicated to providing the requisite knowledge and skills for professionals working in all aspects of the rare book community, and for students interested in entering the field. CalRBS offers week-long courses covering a broad range of topics. Students at CalRBS benefit from an expert faculty and the wealth of special collections of rare books, manuscripts and archival materials in the Los Angeles area.

 

The season for California Rare Book School is near at hand.  The application deadline for tuition scholarships is June 9.

The course, “Building Research Collections of African American Materials,” is being offered again this year as is "Artists' Books" taught by Johanna Drucker.  New courses are "Printing at the Margins: A History of Women Printers," "Secular & Scientific Manuscripts," and "Using Reference Tools to Research Rare Materials."

Weeks 1 & 2 are at UCLA from July 31-August 11.
Week 3 is in San Francisco and Berkeley from August 14-18.
