2014 Tours Organized by the Local Arrangements Committee

AHA 2014 ToursThe Local Arrangements Committee has organized 10 tours highlighting the historical resources of Washington, DC.  

Preregistration for tours is highly recommended. See the tour listings for ticket prices. Tour tickets are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged. Tour participants must be registered for the AHA meeting. Call 508-743-0510 to add tickets to an existing registration. 

All tour groups will meet in the Marriott's Room 8226. Except where indicated, participants with travel to the tour site by Metro. Round trip fare is included in the price of the tour. Metro is handicapped accessible. Some tour locations are a few blocks from the nearest station. Alternate transportation is available on request. Tour 2: Tour of the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center and Historic Spaces in the Capitol Building

No charge; because space is limited, free advance registration is required.

Tour 3: The Diplomatic Reception Rooms of the Department of State
Friday, January 3, 2:00-5:30 p.m.
$10 members, $15 nonmembers.

Important: All visitors must provide a valid form of identification. The following forms of 
identification are acceptable: valid state government and municipal photo ID, valid retired US 
military and government photo ID, valid driver's license or non-driver's ID card, valid passport.
Please note: The State Department building is approximately 5 blocks from the nearest Metro.

Tour 7: Federal Preservation Case Study: Rehabilitation and Reuse of the Historic Old Post 
Office Building

Friday January 3, 2:45-5:15 p.m.
$10 members, $15 nonmembers
Attendees must enter the building on Pennsylvania Avenue, present a valid photo ID, and go 
through security at this federal building.

Tour 7b: The National Library of Medicine's History of Medicine Division
Friday January 3, 2:45-5:15 p.m.
$10 members, $15 nonmembers
Important: The National Library of Medicine is a U.S. government agency, located on the 
campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda. Participants will be required to produce 
a government-issued photo ID and pass through a security checkpoint.

Tour 8: Olmsted Walk: The History and Design of the National Zoo
Friday, January 3, 3:00-5:00 p.m.
