Teaching and Learning at AHA20

The AHA is committed to making the annual meeting a professional home for working teachers. That’s why our annual meeting program offers dozens of workshops, networking opportunities, and sessions for educators at all levels and at every stage of their careers. Use this guide to navigate the full spread of teaching events and topical sessions at AHA20.

Some new opportunities this year include sessions drawn from the AHA’s work on History Gateways, panels on how to teach online, a syllabus design workshop with the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in History, sessions on approaches to graduate pedagogy and more.

Whether attendees are looking to incorporate new sources and methods into their teaching or to continue to develop their teaching as an expression of disciplinary identity—or both—there are sessions for teachers of all levels at AHA20.

We are pleased to announce that that teachers in New York state will be eligible to receive Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) credit for attending selected sessions and workshops at the AHA annual meeting through an agreement with the New York City Department of Education. All sessions and workshops eligible for CTLE credit have been identified in the list below. If you are a New York state teacher seeking CTLE credit for one of these sessions, you will need to fill out a sign-in form at the session/workshop provided by the session chair. If you have any questions about CTLE credit, please contact Megan Connor (mconnor@historians.org).

The AHA has received a sponsorship from the Teagle Foundation to offer complimentary registrations to NYCPS teachers for the 2020 Annual Meeting. If you are an NYCPS teacher, email annualmeeting@historians.org for a promo code to use on the registration form.
