The Boston College Department of History
and the PFF Program Grant Report One
PFF Conference:
Professors Cynthia Lyerly (Boston College) and Nicholas Racheotes
(Framingham State), along with Todd Romero (B.C. graduate student)
and myself all attended the PFF Conference in Colorado Springs,
Colorado in Early July. Not only did this meeting exposes us to
the PFF philosophy and introduce us to other PFF participants, but
it gave the four of us ample time to plan and refine our own program.
Summer Planning Activities:
I have spent the late summer identifying Ph.D. students who will
be participating in the various PFF activities over the course of
next year, scheduling these events and organizing rooms and personnel.
Web Training:
I have taken a crash course in teaching on the web in order to better
facilitate our PFF training on web teaching.
PFF Orientation:
I am preparing graduate student orientation information on PFF,
which will be handed out and discussed during at our beginning of
the year graduate student/faculty lunch.
Special PFF Speakers:
In conjunction with the Lecture Committee, I have invited and scheduled
a number of special PFF speakers for this year and next. Speakers
who have accepted for this year include: Maurice Isserman (Hamilton),
Deborah Valenze (Barnard), John Coatsworth (Harvard), Jacqueline
Jones (Brandeis), C.P. Lewis (Liverpool), and Eric Foner (Columbia).
Publicizing PFF:
In conjunction with Noralee Frankel at the AHA, the B.C. PFF team
has discussed and committed to a speaker for the annual Chair's
luncheon.
