Text Two In their approaches to the discovery of the New World, England, France, and Spain all used different routes of passage, but all had hoped to inevitably find a shorter more efficient route to Asia. England’s reason was to increase their trade amounts by utilizing the shorter route to trade with Asia. It is speculated that who ever discovered this route would have gained complete control over Europe’s trade empire. France on the other hand following with the same motive took a simpler route than England. France who’s intent was to search for the Northwest Passage to the Orient. (Bio. of Jacques Cartier, page 1) France somehow stumbled unto what is now called Canada by the way of the Saint Lawrence River. Spain’s intent was the same as the others but Spain had bigger plans. Spain wanted to find new land to add to their empire. Their plans where to find gold and other precious resources to increase their wealth (Broken Spears, Miguel Leon-Portilla, intro.) Their route took them around the African Coast. And by fate they where blown completely off of the predicted course and discovered South America and after setting up post and trade centers there they stretched their empire on up as far as Mexico. This made Spain the Riches Empire in Europe at that given point in time
