Class Participation

In this course you have two different options for participating in class discussions.

Traditional Participation: The first of these options is the traditional route of speaking up in class during one of our discussions of the material assigned for that day.  The more you have to say (and the more cogent you comments and questions), the better your grade for class participation will be.  Also, I can all but guarantee that if you participate in discussions, you will find that you learn much more than you would have otherwise.

On-line Participation: The second option is for you to participate in our discussions on-line. Each week I will post at least one discussion question (either a question that also came up in class, or a different question altogether) and you can join your colleagues from this section and my other Western Civilization section in a virtual discussion of the topic.

Either form of participation (live or virtual) on your part counts the same in my determination of your grade, so if you are more comfortable speaking up in person, do so, or if you are more comfortable speaking up on-line, do so. No matter what, you must participate one way or the other if you expect a satisfying grade for this portion of the course.

Remember, attendance also is factored into your participation grade.
