Anonymous One Obituary of Andrew Johnson

The assassination of president Lincoln enabled Andrew Johnson to become the president. He was the only southern in congress who voted against secession. Johnson was obstructing implementation of the government reconstruction policies, he intentionally prostituted the power of his position to the over throw of the government. The person who wrote the obituary thought Johnson deserved to be impeached because he used his power as the president to object policies passed by the congress which were for the benefit of American citizens. Johnson responded to issues based on his personal interest not public interest. He vetoed the Tenure Act which did not allow the president to remove any government officials without the consent of the senate. Johnson dismissed government officials who went against him or opposed his bills. Johnson refused to compromise on the freedman's Bureau bill, which assisted former slaves in the transition to freedom. He took for granted that the blacks were inferior and strongly supported white supremacy. Johnson vetoed the civil rights bill, as he believed that the settlement of racism issue in the south should be left to the white southern without federal interference. He also supported the black codes passed by the southern legislature which limited black occupancy and forced labor.
